My name is John Gieselman and I'd like to help you achieve your goal of owning your dream log home. Many years ago, I placed an ad in the paper looking for logs to cut down and use to build my first log home. I received a call from Walt Tomashoff who said that he'd like to save my marriage, my sanity, and several years of building time by telling me what type of log I should use to build my home.
It was Walt who first introduced me to the type of logs I now sell. They are specially selected from dry standing timber then they are milled, coped and notched for easy installation. Thanks Walt! I have seen many attempts at building a home with green, un-milled logs that have ended just as Walt predicted my experience might. I ordered my logs from Walt and enjoyed my project so much that I changed vocations completely and started my own Log Home business. That was over 25 years ago and I have built many log homes in the ensuing years. One day, though, it occurred to me that I could save my customers thousands of dollars and give them a lot of satisfaction by helping them to build their own log home, just as I had done many years ago. So, I changed the focus of my company and now cater to the do-it-yourselfer!
My manual can guide you through the process of achieving your dream. The system described in this manual does not require that your logs be precut, assembled, numbered, shipped and then reassembled. Saving you lots of money! Yet, the construction process is simple, and easy to do. Remember this manual is intended to give general construction procedures and requirements may vary in different areas of the country. We can also be available to you for onsite consultations and help. A log home can fit into any setting but be sure to check the covenants in your neighborhood before starting. My first log home was in a rural, wooded setting, in Maple Valley, Washington on acreage. I chose to keep my logs their natural wood color. I currently live on the shores of Lake Washington, and am planning to build a log home with a more contemporary look. I will be using a white washed log and lots of glass to enjoy the view.
Don't limit yourself, build it the way you want it. You will love your log home, and will enjoy a warmth, and peace not found in any other type of construction. It is like coming home to your own lodge every night!
This manual is designed to lead you through the construction of your log home in a step by step fashion. It is complete and easy to follow, and contains both pictures and illustrations. All pages are laminated for easy use in the field. Cost is $12.95, which is reimbursed with your log order.
